There have been many luminous people down the ages. These people, who are able to produce light from parts of their bodies, are found in folklore, medical literature and religious texts. Various investigations have found the phenomenon to be genuine, though the cause is unknown.

In Italy in 1934 Anna Morano was able to produce a blue light from her breasts for a few seconds at a time; this was witnessed by several doctors, one of whom compared the phenomenon to bioluminescence. [1]
